Dads and Doula - As doulas we believe that the dad does and should play a very important role in supporting their wife during the birth process

Doulas never replace the dad during the birth of their baby. As doulas we believe that the dad does and should play a very important role in supporting their wife during the birth process. A doula can help remind the dad how to support his wife either when it is important to take fluids, walk, change positions or use the birthing ball.

We never see ourselves as taking the father's place if anything we hope to enhance it and to help him play a more active role. Having a doula also means that not all the physcial and emotional support has to come from the dad but that it is shared.

The following links are to information on the role of the Dad and the doula. I have also included  a wonderful story written by one of my doula dads  here in Dubai who talks about his experience of having a doula present at the birth of their son.
